Kingdom of Abertawe Simming Manual

Welcome to the Kingdoms of Abertawe. Abertawe is a role playing game (RPG) that is played via e-mail (PBEM). It is a cooperative story telling, where each person creates and controls a character in a storyline. The Players acts and live in the game world of Cei Newydd, more specifically, the kingdom of Abertawe. The timeline is the equalivant of the King Arthur/ Druids.

If you are familiar with RPGs then you understand the processes that are involved in creating a character for the game. Your character's biography serves the as the rules that governs what abilities and characteristics your player possesses. The biography will explain key points about your character so that the other players can interact with your character correctly when they write their parts of the story. This helps avoid the complicated manuals when creating your character. Let your imagination be your guide to creating your character.

Please remember that this is a Medievel sim, if you apply with anything other than human, you will be asked to change or not accepted. Abertawe has no magic, shapeshifting, dragons, unicorns and things that are like them. The people believe in these things and you can help heighten their belief but no character will be allowed to actually use it.

I will now outline the process of creating a character for Abertawe. There are a few guidelines that must be followed to make the sim flow smoothly.

When you first decided to join Abertawe you should e-mail the GM at latiera@aol.com Your first message should include the following three things: An alternative to this is to use the application form.

1. Should include a little about yourself. It helps to know your experience with SIMs and/or RPGs, likes, dislikes, other interest, etc. This will help me make a better SIM for everyone. First time simmers are encouraged to first attend the Academy Fantasy class. Abertawe holds the right to reject anyone that applied to the Academy but failed to graduate.

2. A brief description of the character you would like to play. This should be very sketchy for your bio should come soon enough. This helps me get an idea of your character so that I can help make suggestions or point out problems that might arise.

3. Job that is wanted is the most important items to include in your initial message. This could be many possibilities. There are many jobs to be found in a castle (Knight, Squire, Cook, stablehand, solider and so forth). Of course you can change your mind after you contact me.

After you write or submitted an application form, the GM will reply to you with suggestions or changes to your initial character sketch. This is just to help fit into the SIM. Then you are given the go ahead to begin your character biography. You can send this via email. Please Don't send the bio form until after sending an application.

Now comes the fun part. This can sometimes be hard, sometimes a breeze. You are not limited by hard coded rules that you find in a fixed role playing system. Basically the only limitation is your imagination. Keep in mind as you create your character to stay in the confines of the world.

Your Bio should use the following outline:

- Name:
- Age:
- Height:
- Weight:
- Background:
- Personality Profile:
- Skills and Abilities:
- Physical Profile:
- Special Notes:

The break down of each category is as follows:

Name: the full Proper name (Typically one name or name with "son of someone" (ap father)

Age: the age of your character years

Height:

Weight: Physical stats

Background: This is the history of your character. It will contain facts of your characters life story.

Personality Profile: This section will tell the other players what your character acts like

Physical Profile: Describe what your character looks like in this section.

Skills and Abilities: This section is used to describe your character's skills and abilities.

Special Notes: Any additional information that you what known will be found here.

Now you e-mail your character's bio to the GM for review. After it has been met with approval, you become a member of the SIM.

The GM will provide you with a current e-mail listing of all the players in the game. The GM will e-mail the other characters informing them of your arrival. Then you are set to have adventure and fun in Abertawe.

To help you get familiarize yourself with the other characters you should read through all the bios on the web site. This is a good idea to get ideas to create your own bio. It helps and might be a good idea to read through the last couple of Tales of Abertawe to familiarize yourself with the current story line.

Roll call- a time where one post or is cut from the sim- is held from time to time. Everyone should post at least once a week anyway to keep the story flowing.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun while in Abertawe. Hope to see you all there someday.

As our sim has grown and the plot has become more intricate, the amount of posts has increased. In reality, the sim has moved foward only about two weeks in the last five months. But the amount of posts make it seem much more. For those writers involved in many sims, or who have limited internet access, this has become prohibitive. At the same time, the GM's do not wish to hold back those with intense writing interest. (fascinating problem for a sim to have) So, we have come to a solution and hope this will forstall any future problems and allow all writers, despite their posting rate, to enjoy Abertawe.

CHANGE ONE:
All posts that affect other the main plot OR.. are posts majorly observable by other players. must be labeled PLOT POST: before the title. Okay, let me explain this with some examples. If your character is with one other character alone.. discussing something or in some kind of by play.. that is not a plot post.. If you are still working on plot.. it is a reactive post. It does not affect the plot for others. If .. for example, you (WITH GM APPROVAL) kill off a member of court.. that is observable to all castle players and must be labeled plot post.

What this will allow is the avid posting that many writers want. The busier writers, can also play by focusing in on plot posts that might affect THEIR character. They can read later.. or delete those posts that are not affecting their characters.

CHANGE TWO:
All posts written at a slower pace that could change plot.. must be copied to the gms so we know what is coming. Then, we will either slow time down.. OR...... depending on the post ask that you mark it BACK PLOT POST. All character posts written slowly can just be labeled BACK POST

CHANGE THREE:
All out of character responses must be labeled in the subject line.. OOC: Again, so players can skip these if they wish. OOC: comments allowed by sim players are limited to constructive.. praise.. or plot questoins. All complaints, issues and concerns should be sent directly to the player involved and to the GM's at latiera@aol.com and mhaveman@wanadoo.nl . This will forestall some other small eruptions we have had. Any OOC: comments not following the above will receive GM censor for placing it on list. We want to keep the list a positive read. Not that there are lots of these.. but as we grow and change.. if this rule is in place.. we won't have future issues. The GM's will adhere to this rule as well, again.. keeping any negativity off list.

CHANGE FOUR:
- Characters wanting a position in the higgher hierarchy must be prepared to be at the beck and call of the King and Queen.

- Characters may not be of Royal descent, foreign or not, unless specifically approved by the GMs

- Characters from Abertawe will be gettingg higher priority over foreigners when positions are decided.

- Commoners are allowed far more freedom aand ethnic background

We hope these changes will help as we grow to ease any future tensions. It is our goal to keep Abertawe a safe, creative and vibrant environment. All our players are valuable and we do not wish to lose any because we are to fast.. or to slow. a hard middle road to adhere to.

Best wishes and may you all live to see the end of the seige.
