Huw ap Edric

Squire

Played by: Anders Huw ap Edric

Name:Huw ap Edric
Age: 15
Height: 5’7”
weight: 145 lbs

Background:
Huw was born to poor, common parents in the nation of Dinas Dwr. His father was a farmer and carpenter living on the outskirts of a small village. He barely made enough money to feed his family, but he was a hard worker. Things took a turn for the worst when Huw’s mother, Gabriella, fell ill and died when Huw was eight. His father was left to provide and care for his five sons on his own. Huw was the second oldest among the brood of children and he had a wild nature. He hated the farm life and was always running off to hunt or fish or to have his own adventures when he should have been tending the fields.

One day a wandering knight came upon the farm and asked to be lodged overnight. Edric of course accepted and lodged the nobleman well. Huw was fascinated by him, and listened intently when he told stories of his adventures. The knight went by the name of Hawk.

When it came time for the knight to leave the very next day, it was almost more than Huw could bear. An hour after the knight left, Huw packed what little he owned into a leather satchel, left a note for his father, and he took off after him. He followed Hawk for a full day without the courage to approach him, before the knight finally did so himself. It was after much consternation that the nobleman agreed to take the boy on as his squire.

Huw was beyond elation and did everything he was told. He was eager to learn and soaked up any advice and instruction told to him by the knight. He was a hard worker and served as an excellent squire for two years. One day, though, he and his knight were attacked by bandits. He proved himself well at the beginning of the fight, especially since he was only a boy, but he was severely injured in the encounter.

The knight took the boy back to his father and continued on his own. For awhile it looked as if Huw wouldn’t survive his wounds, but he pulled through in the end. Hawk had not believed he would survive, either, so Huw was left with no knowledge of where the knight had gone. It overwhelmed him at first, because he had become close to the man and doubted that any other knight would take him on as a squire since he wasn’t of noble birth.

He became the rebel of the family with no desire to be back on the farm. A few months after his return, though, Edric died. It devastated him. He’d been close to his father and had spent a lot of time helping him with carpentry to sell. His older brother took over the farm, but Huw became something of a wandering adventurer. He traveled Cei Newydd and finally came to the country of Abertawe, where he found out, much to his dismay, that the knight he’d known only as Hawk had become king. He was in Abertawe for a few months, learning the land, before he finally decided to travel to Alban.

Huw ap Edric

Personality Profile:
Huw is a quiet and shy boy by most accounts, accustomed to being taunted by noble boys, but in his young life he has experienced much grief and he now has a thick skin when it comes to things of that nature. He is all too aware of the fact that he is merely a farmer’s son, but it doesn’t stop him from aspiring to be more. At times he seems far more mature than other boys his age, but at other times he can be just as boyish as any other. He also can find his way into trouble quite a bit, but has a way of finding his way out again. He’s always eager to learn, but he doesn’t make friend very easily. He is something of a loner, preferring his own company to any others most of the time.

Physical Profile: He has light brown hair and bright blue eyes. He stands at average height for a boy of his age and he has the slim yet muscled frame of the highly energetic boy that he is. Though he is on the thin side, his weight is almost purely muscle. His hands are rough from working in the fields as well as working as a squire. His skin is bronzed from a life in the sun. He has a bright smile even though he rarely does smile.

Skills and Abilities: Huw ap Edric
In his lifetime, Huw has been exposed to many things and has learned quite a bit. Even though he is a commoner, he learned to read and write fairly well from his time as a squire with the wandering knight, Hawk. Among other boys his age, he is excellent with a sword, even more so than most noble boys because of his devotion to excel. He can even parry well and hold his own for a few minutes among most knights. He is accurate with a bow, but has little training with a lance. He’s been in many fights and therefore is exceptional at fisticuffs.

He is also a farmer’s son and though he has no desire to be a farmer, he can farm and tend crops. When traveling he spent a bit of time as an apprentice under a blacksmith to earn a bit of money, but his knowledge of the art is only basic. He is good with horses, though he has never made enough money to buy one for himself. He spent a lot of time hunting in his younger youth, and he still does to survive, so he is a huntsman and fisher as well. Huw could also survive as a carpenter and it is hobby of his, but he is a warrior at heart.
