Gareth ap Kynan Played by: Daniel

Name: Gareth ap Kynan
Age: 22
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 192 lbs.

Background: Gareth was born in a village far west from the capital. His father was a knight in service to the king. Gareth destined to become a squire was taught to read and right by the local priest who also taught Gareth wisdom and knowledge. At 12 Gareth was made the squire to Gavin Ap Griffin. When not cleaning Gavin's armour, weapons and tending to every need of his father, Gareth was one who liked to watch the town's garrison of soldiers train. Sometimes Gareth would practice fighting with the blacksmith's son who also dreamed of becoming a knight.

At age fourteen Gareth was taught by Gavin, the values of a knight. Gareth was also taught the sword becoming skilled with both a two handed and a hand and a half sword. When conflict broke out in the area near the village, Gareth's father was called to serve in the army along with Gavin. Gareth accompanied the two to many battlefields but never got to fight as he wasn't a knight or a soldier and wasn't fully trained with a weapon. The conflict was short and soon enough both Gareth returned home with Gavin to find himself in love with the daughter of another knight. At age 17 Gareth married Megan.

Gareth now 18 took his vows as a knight and became a father to a daughter. Upon his father's death, Gareth became rightful owner of his father's lands and the small bit of land he was given by Megan's father. Gareth first participated in a battle when he lead sixty guardsmen to aid Lord Gavin when his town had become under siege. Fighting off the attackers, Gareth was applauded for his bravery during the siege.

At the age of 20 Gareth understood his responsibilities as a knight went higher than just the lands he owned, he witnessed the entire kingdom go to war with another and actively participated in several battles leading from the front. After this short war he travelled with twenty mounted soldiers to the capital to swear loyalty to the King and offer his service. The King made Gareth the Low Knight of Garnet.

Personality Profile: Gareth is someone who believes in chivalry to the very end. Gareth's sense of duty, honour and bravery is not to be questioned as many who have ended up taking back what they said. As a knight Gareth is honourable and brave preferring to lead his men to battle than watch from behind. One thing Gareth is not fond of is taking the flank in a battle, he would rather fight where the enemy is concentrated while some one else charges the weak spot. When Gareth is before the king with other knights, he is not afraid to speak his mind but takes care not to insult any of his fellow knights and especially the king. Gareth's code of honour is three simple words Loyalty, Courage and Duty. He is one of those who would fight to his last breath to defend the kingdom he serves.

Gareth in Action

Physical Profile: Gareth has brown hair that is not too short and not too long to avoid it getting in his way when he fights in combat. Gareth has a short beard. Gareth has no visible scars but has been injured in battle before. He is well built and reasonably tall. Most of the time Gareth is dressed in a black except when he is in armour. Gareth's armour is meant to provide protection as well as given him adequate movement in battle, for this reason his main protection is a steel cuirass with attached steel pauldrons over a chain mail shirt, he also has steel shin guards and vambraces. Gareth also wears a black woollen cloak clasped to his cuirass. Gareth's helmet is a full barbut design.
Skills and Abilities: Gareth does know how to use a bow but he is a poor shot and would never use one unless he had to as he prefers close combat. His skill with one and two handed swords is exceptional but is no good with a mace or axe. Gareth's ability with a spear is also good. One notable skill for Gareth is his ability to raise the spirits of any man under his command by leading the way with his men sometimes trying to catch up.. Gareth is no brilliant tactician prefering fighting than planning.
