Background:
The son of Lord Turalyon, a retired military commander of
King Jolnar of Llandaf. Arthas is the eldest of his family having
slightly younger sister and young brother. Being born into nobility for
Arthas was not as easy as one would expect for he had the greatest
burden of following his father’s footsteps into the service of the king.
While in his young life he proved himself by learning etiquette and
politeness, he knew that someday his father would send him to be the
squire of a knight and Arthas had no opposition to this arrangement. Up
until this time he spent young life playing with sticks and pretending
to be a great knight like his father.
On his eleventh birthday, Arthas was greeted by a very important guest who had come to his father’s castle, the king himself. Few could consider themselves lucky to have been offered as a squire to the king and fewer still would ever be accepted. For both his family and himself it was a great honor to be the student of King Jolnar. His first lessons were always about duty and how to best serve a country. These lessons were followed by the rules of chivalry then weaponry followed and finally tactics. One of Arthas’ weaknesses had always been pride and it was discovered when the son of a noble made fun of the king and Arthas didn’t hesitate in breaking the ten year olds nose demanding that he show some respect, though his loyalty was true, Jolnar didn’t favor his squire attacking the son of a noble.
At the age of seventeen, Arthas followed his mentor to war against an
uprising by a trio of barons in the east of Llandaf. Though it had not
been the king’s intention to willfully endanger his squire’s life as he
was yet not ready for war, he none the less joined his army in the
fighting. Proving his bravery and limited skill with the sword, Arthas
survived the three battles that the king fought in and was his emissary
when the king asked for the surrender of the barons. Returning to Nahyr
he spent his final year as a squire perfecting his tactics and swordplay
to the best of his ability. Finally on his eighteenth birthday and
infront of all the nobles and his family, Arthas was dubbed a knight.
Spending a year traveling the country side in the service of the king, Arthas grew a name for himself after rescuing a group of children from a cult and later he defeated a treacherous knight on the field of honor. With a year past since his knighthood, Llandaf was invaded by foreigners from across the ocean. He had begged to go with the king to meet them in battle but instead he was appointed to the advisory council to watch over the power hungry barons, his appointment to the council was unheard of for someone so young. At this time Arthas began a strong friendship with the acting sovereign and daughter to the king, Princess Talia. Though it never went any further than a strong friendship. He stood by the side of Talia when the barons attempted to convince her to hand power to them as no word had come from the king. It was his advice alone that convinced her to not do so and a rift formed between the young knight and commander of the army, Lord General Denath. When the king returned wounded, Arthas felt his strength tested upon the sight of his mentor in a bad state but he held his ground and continued to advise Talia on what to do. As word reached Nahyr of the invaders marching for the capital Talia and Arthas both agreed that the only sure way to outlast was to meet the invaders with the four thousand men of the second army in a final do or die campaign for Nahyr wouldn’t resist a siege against a large number.
With Denath staying behind, Arthas and Talia rode out with the army begin the campaign. The first strikes proved successful before the main force confronted the defenders of Llandaf. This battle started off a stalemate before reinforcements arrived and attacked the reserves from behind where Talia observed the battle. Arthas knowing he could not both fight and protect the princess at the same time made the choice to lead the entire cavalry into direct combat leaving the princess to fend for herself with the infantry. Though the battle was a success some questioned his judgment on leaving the heir to the throne without assistance.
Returning to the capital at the head of their army, Talia and Arthas
both were hailed as heroes. After the king regained his health he
declared Arthas to be the king’s greatest knight directly insulting
General Denath who had been the king’s right hand before Arthas had even
been born. With this title he was granted the noble status of Duke and
the province of Tiras Barad.
Becoming the sword arm of the king, Arthas reluctantly remained behind when Talia was sent to Abertawe as a representative of the alliance between the two kingdoms and debated the king’s decision that he was to also remain behind when Talia was reported missing. Temporarily, he was left in command until the king returned from finding his own daughter. Having done so the king feared for his daughter’s safety and gave task of protecting Talia against everything and anything.
Personality Profile:
Not known for a sense of humor, Arthas is not
completely without a lighter side but will never make a comment that
could insult a royal or noble. He is strong in both body and mind and
his loyalty to king/queen, country and duty is unquestionable. Though he
is considered a romantic and chivalrous knight, Arthas finds himself
concerned with matters of duty to even think about bothering with women.
His pride is both his strength and weakness.
Physical Profile:
A tall man with a medium build, Arthas is not the
rugged or unshaven knight seen mostly in the courts of barbarians. His
appearance only adds to his pride and keeps a firm reputation around him
that duty is everything. Seen only wearing the colors of his house,
plain blue he is not one to wear simple outfits. His armor is a mix with
a steel cuirass, gauntlets and grieves and a chain mail shirt
underneath. Wherever he goes, Arthas is always wearing his sword.
Skills and Abilities:
Skilled with the horse, Arthas has learned
swordplay, tactics and warfare from King Jolnar as well as the rules of
chivalry. Amongst his other skills include dancing, reading and writing,
tracking and leadership.
Special Notes:
Being the knight protector of Princess Talia involves
more than just being a bodyguard for Arthas accompanies her as escort to
formal banquets as well.
