The Arms of Aderyn ui Emrys

Name:Aderyn ui Emrys
Age: 24
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 142

Background:
The oldest child, and only daughter of Lord Emrys ap Atawn, and his wife; the nobelwoman, Lady Isolde, cousin of Lord Iorwerth ap Greidawl. Aderyn was raised as a warrior, and taught from an early age to ride and fight as well as any man. Her father, Emrys, was a general in the armies of Lord Iorwerth; and often faught at his side. As a matter of fact, Emrys saved the often wild-tempered Iorwerth on several occasions, when his berserker rage came close to getting the better of him. For the most part, Aderyn was raised among the lords and ladies of the castle, and their children. Her mother took great effort to teach Aderyn to be ladylike, and to ready her for marriage; perhaps to a knight or a nobelman. But, Emrys would have none of it. He wanted both his daughter, and his son Atawn to follow him into the service of Iorwerth and his house.

Emrys did not believe that a woman's place was at home, to tend the fires, and find food and shelter for the warriors when they returned from the field. He belived the hand of a maiden could wield bow or blade with all the strength and skill of a man. He believed a woman could ride as hard, and fight as long as a man. And he taught this to both his children. But, he was a stern taskmaster. Atawn, who was named for Emrys' father, soon tired of the discipline and left home. It has been said he joined the Druids. But even Aderyn does not know for certain the whereabouts of her brother.

When Aderyn was 14, her mother died in a riding accident; thrown down a steep embankment when her saddlestrap snapped and her saddle fell from the back of her horse, taking Isolde with it. She suffered, for days, lingering with the healers; her back and neck broken, until she died in Emrys' arms. The great warrior shed no tears, but in his heart he was crying for the loss of his love. He turned his attention to his children, and drove them harder in their training. Especially after rumor came to him that his wife may have been murdered by enemies of Iorwerth. The saddle strap could have been cut. And the horse was Emrys'; it could well have been he and not his wife that had been marked for death.

While Atawn left his father, Aderyn stayed loyaly by his side, learning all she could of the skills of a warrior. She became one of the best riders in the kingdom, and her skill with the blade was not easily bested. But, Aderyn did not delight in battle, for battle's sake as did her father. She was more interested in the aspects of war that were not faught on the field. Strategy, tactics, and the crafts of weapon and armor making. In her own spare time she studied these things, until she learned to fletch her own arrows, and even to make armor. With her father's tutiledge she also became a skilled strategists. And before her father retired his blade, it was often Aderyn, and not Emrys who planned the sorties the latter would lead.

By the time she was 20, Aderyn was known as a brave, and valiant warrior. Her father continued to fight for the sons of Iorwerth, and became a general in the armies of Abertawe. Then, on the eve of Aderyn's 22nd birthday, her father was wounded in battle. It was not the first time, but the wound was grievous. He lingered for days, between life and death, before he finally began to recover strength. Emrys lived, but he was weakened and wearied by his wound, and by the years that were finally catching up to him. He stepped down as general, begging the leave of the King Regent. And Emry retired to a life of leisure and rest in the castle, although he is still called upon at times for advice, and he will often put on his sword and ride in minor sorties, though his healers have strongly advised against it.

In the meanwhile, Aderyn has risen in the ranks, and some few short months ago, she was knighted. An honor that is usualy only bestowed upon men of the realm, but it was allowed for Aderyn, because of her father. And now Aderyn is a Knight of the Crest of Pearl. She serves the King and Queen of Abertawe with honor, and with courage.

Personality Profile:
Aderyn is bold, adventuresome, and sometimes a bit foolhardy. She is a warrior first, and a woman second. And any man who wishes to win her hand must first best her in battle. She is brave, almost to a fault, and she will not hesitate to charge into battle, nor to draw her sword at the slightest provocation. But, she is even tempered. She does not leap into battle in anger, but more out of a sense of duty. To those she knows well, Aderyn is a gentle, and loving soul. A good friend, and a loyal one. To those who do not know her, she may seem somewhat distant, or aloof. But it does not take long for her to warm up to someone. And when she does name one as a friend, they have her loyalty for life.

Aderyn is very curious, about how things work, and about how things are made. She has studied a lot, and will often know something she is not expected, or even supposed to know when it comes to such things as forging armor, or making weapons. She is also good at repairing things, from the broken wheel of a wagon, to the clavicle in the royal hall; Aderyn can fix anything. She also loves animals. And she values the life of her horse, Tor, as highly as her own. She has never married, nor has she given her father any grandchildren to spoil. And this does not seem to be among the ambitions Aderyn has for own life. She wants to lead armies, to plan battles, and to win them. She is a warrior, and a craftswoman. In that order.

Physical Profile: Aderyn is tall, and muscular, and yet still trim and feminine in her form. She has golden hair, worn long, but often tied behind her head so that it does not get in her eyes when fighting.. Her eyes are a peculiar shade of blueish green that, depending on her mood, can seem more blue, or more green. When she is angry her eyes flash an eerie silver-blue that gives her an almost maniacle appearance. Her skin is soft, and fair; pale and slightly freckled. She has a few scars, from the battles she has faught, but nothing anyone can see unless they see her in the altogether. One is a scar on her back; a cut from a sword that left her bedridden at the mercy of the healers for far longer than she liked. Another is the mark of an arrow in her shoulder on her left side.

Aderyn is left-handed. Her voice is soft, and she speaks with a gentle tone, sometimes seeming to mumble her words, or speak quickly as if she were talking only to herself. Aderyn's face is comely enough, although she has a way of using her features so that she appears more fierce, or dangerous than one would normaly percieve. But, when she does smile, it is a lovely smile.

Skills and Abilities:
Aderyn has the skills of a warrior, and a craftsman. She can wield blade, or bow, and ride as hard and fast as any man. She can also forge steel, and she has made the armor she know wears as well as the sword she carries. She is an excellent strategist, and has the talent to become a natural leader of men given a little more experience in the field. She is good with animals, and seems to have a natural knack of calming a freightened horse, or soothing an injured dog. Aderyn shows no fear around animals, even the wildest ones. And she loves travelling into the wilderness. She knows how to live off the land, as she was taught by her father; and can use her bow to hunt, or can catch fish with a fair ammount of luck. She also enjoys trying to cook, although this skill seems to elude her, as does any form of musical talent. She can fix a musical intstrument, but cannot play anything. And her singing voice is flat and leaves much to be desired. She does have a talent for repairing things, be they weapons, or simple household items.

Special Notes:
Aderyn wears armor she has crafted herself; it is of a black color, and the rest of her raiment is usualy dark greens and browns. Her shield is emblazoned with the symbol of her house- a white horse on a green field. Her helmet is decorated with a red plume of feathers. Her horse, Tor, is a powerful, muscular animal with black fur and white markings. He has a marking that is vaguely in the shape of a star upon his forehead- the fur there is of a silver grey color. Aderyn also has a pet falcon called Ula that she is trying to train to carry messages in and out of the field of battle. She has already trained her to catch an arrow in her talons, but only under controlled conditions. She has never tried to use the bird to do this in battle, fearing for her life. Aderyn believes in neither magic nor religion. But she respects the Earth, and the life that comes from it.
